In November of 2019 the department of Fontys University of Applied Sciences, ICT Tilburg where I work for moved to a brand new building (P8). I was in the privileged position to visually create an inspiring atmosphere for 400 students and 40 teachers.
The educational program called for a different way of looking at a building an its interior. No classrooms, but large environments where a student can work in a project based setting. To avoid the feeling of a classroom every environment has a large box in the middle called a Lab. These Labs are in essence workplaces where students can work with hardware, smart home solutions or audio and video tools.
The Lab above is for audio and video
Every lab has its own theme. The lab above is called 'Maker Space'.The look and feel represents traditional craftsmanship. In this lab a student can work with wood, paper, cardboard and other more physical tools.
Above: the Lab for technology students. The students can work on projects with robots, process automation and AI in this lab. The look and feel for this lab is created with future technology and concepts from sci-fi movies in mind.
Above: some hallways and other corners of the building. These were decorated with visuals created in 3D and carpets and furniture in an outspoken colour pallet. Below: the 'Security Lab' created for students to work on cyber security projects.
